Alsace, France

So, we decided to take the plunge and do our first overnight

trip with Drake the second week of September. A group of our friends

were taking a trip to the Alsace region in France and we thought we

could not pass it up. Here we are in a winery tasting some wines.

What is a trip to France without escargot and a Kir Royale?

Yum yum.

And like a true French person we stopped at a bakery

and picked up our baguettes for dinner. Nothing beats

a fresh loaf of French bread!

The city of Strasbourg is known for this dish called

choucroute. It is a peasant style dish made of sauerkraut,

various sausages, bacon, pork and potatoes. A meat lover's heaven.

If you look closely at the house the second floor is

larger than the first floor. This was a way to charge more

rent!

What would a medieval town be without its Gothic

cathedral at the center? Yep, Strasbourg has one!

This is the Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg.

It is a sandstone structure that was begun in the 12th century

and completed in 1439. The 466 ft lacy openwork spire

is the tallest dating from medieval times.

At 12:31 each day a parade of figures enact Christ's Passion.

Good thing the buggy has shocks - otherwise Drake would

have shaken baby syndrome from all of the cobblestones!

We stopped at two other little towns along the Alsace

Wine Road. It was so easy to just drive around and visit

these great wine making towns. Then we drove back home

to Switzerland. It is so fun to be in the heart of Europe!
